City Council Meeting Minutes - February 23, 1998 <br />Page 4 <br />City .Attorney read: ORDINANCE 98-2222 - AN ORDINANCE VACATING, <br />ABANDONING AND CLOSING THE ALLEY OF BLOCK 867, TOWN OF <br />LA PORTE, HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH <br />THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE <br />HEREOF. <br />Mgji )n was made by Councilperson Gay to approve this Ordinance as read by <br />the City Attorney. Second by Councilperson Engelken. The motion carried, 8 <br />ayes; 0 nays. <br />Ayes:. Councilpersons Engelken, Ebow, McLaughlin, Porter, Gay, Maxwell, <br />Clark: and Sutherland. <br />Nays: None <br />8. CONSIDER APPROVAL OR OTHER ACTION REGARDING AN <br />ORDINANCE VACATING, ABANDONING AND CLOSING THE <br />NORTHERNMOST TWO HUNDRED (200) FEET OF THE SOUTH <br />ELEVENTH STREET RIGHT-OF-WAY BETWEEN BLOCKS 143 AND <br />144, TOWN OF LA PORTE, HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS (Ord. 98-2223) - <br />J. Joerns <br />Assistant City Manager John Joerns presented summary and recommendation <br />for Ordinance 98-2223. Mr. Joerns informed Council the City has been <br />petitioned by Mr. Decker McKim and Emery Farkas to close, vacate, and <br />abandon the northernmost 200' of the South 11' Street Right -of -Way between <br />blocks 143 &144, Town of La Porte to facilitate development within Block 143 <br />and the adjacent right-of-way. The Franchise Utility Companies and the Public <br />Works Department advised there are no immediate or future plans to utilize this <br />right -of --way. In addition, Mr. Joerns noted consideration has been given to <br />requirements for the future expansion of Little Cedar Bayou. <br />Mr. Joerns advised Council that staff does not normally support partial street <br />closings.
