Askins <br /> <br />City Attorney Knox Askins read: ORDINANCE 98-2235 - AN ORDINANCE <br />DELCARING THE RESULtS OF THE ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF <br />LA PORTE ON MAY 2, 1998, FOR THE ELECTION OF <br />COUNCILPEROSN AT LARGE, POSITION A; COUNCILPERSON <br />DISTRICT 4; AND COUNCILPERSON DISTRICT 5; FINDING <br />COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING <br />AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. . <br /> <br />City Attorney Know Askins read the results of the Final Official Canvass of <br />votes at the May 2, 1998, General Election. In the race for Councilperson-At- <br />Large-Position A; Bruce E. Meismer 224 votes, Bob McLaughlin 367, Elmer <br />Edwards 33, Peter Griffiths 232. In the race for District 4; Deotis Gay 83 <br />votes. In the race for District 5; Charlie Young 139, Jack Maxwell 107. In <br />Councilperson At Large Position "A", there will be a Run-Off on Saturday, <br />May 30, 1998 between Bob McLaughlin and Peter Griffiths. Councilperson <br />District 4, Deotis Gay was elected. Councilperson District 5, Charlie Young <br />was elected. <br /> <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Porter to approve this Ordinance as <br />presented. Second by Council person Clarke. The motion carried, 8 ayes, 0 <br />nays. <br /> <br />Ayes: Councilpersons Sutherland, Engelken, Ebow, McLaughlin, Porter, Gay, <br />Clarke and Mayor Malone. <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />6. ADMINISTERING OATH OF OFFICE FOR NEW COUNCILPERSONS - <br />N. Malone <br /> <br />Mayor Malone administered the Oath of Office to District 4 Councilperson <br />Deotis Gay and District 5 Council person Charlie Young. <br />
