<br />e <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />AND PUBLIC HEARING <br />OF LA PORTE CITY COUNCIL <br />OCTOBER 9, 2000 <br /> <br />1. CALL TO ORDER <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order by Mayor Norman Malone at 6:00 p.m. <br /> <br />Members of City Council Present: Councilpersons Guy Sutherland, Chuck Engelken, <br />Howard Ebow, Peter Griffiths, Alton Porter, Deotis Gay, Charlie Young, Jerry Clarke, <br />and Norman Malone. <br /> <br />Members of Council Absent: None <br /> <br />Members of City Executive Staff and City Emplovees Present: City Manager Robert T. <br />Herrera, City Attorney Knox Askins, Assistant City Manager John Joerns, City Secretary <br />Martha Gillett, Assistant Finance Director Mike Dolby, Director of Administrative <br />Services Louis Rigby, Parks and Recreation Director Stephen Barr, Public Works <br />Director Steve Gillett, Planning Coordinator Masood Malik, Emergency Services <br />Director Joe Sease and Planning Director Doug Kneupper. <br /> <br />Others Present: Bill Scott, Sib Carpenter, Spero Pomonis, Patty Welborn, David <br />Hernandez, Marlin Fenn, Roy Myers, Gary Hines and a number of citizens. <br /> <br />2. Reverend Marlin Fenn - First United Methodist Church delivered the invocation. <br /> <br />3. Council considered approving the minutes of the Regular Meeting on September 25, <br />2000. <br /> <br />Motion was made by Council person Young to approve the minutes of the Regular <br />Meeting on September 25.2000 as presented. Second by Councilperson Clarke. The <br />motion carried. <br /> <br />Ayes: Sutherland, Engelken, Ebow, Griffiths, Young, Clarke, and Malone. <br />Nays: None <br />Abstain: Porter <br /> <br />Councilmember Gay arrived at 6: 15 PM. <br /> <br />4. PETITIONS, REMONSTRANCES, COMMUNICATIONS, AND CITIZENS AND <br />T AXP A YERS WISHING TO ADDRESS COUNCIL. <br /> <br />The following citizens addressed City Council. <br /> <br />David Hernandez - 321 south 3rd Street - Mr. Hernandez addressed Council concerning <br />the scheduling of heavy trash pick up and solid waste ordinance. <br /> <br />Sib Carpenter - 5234 Glen Park - Ms. Carpenter addressed Council concerning the <br />taxation system. She informed Council she had been doing research and the taxes are not <br />assessed evenly throughout the City. She requested Council look into this matter. <br />
