Budget Includes Ca'pit <br />The 1998-99 fiscal year budget for <br />the City of La Porte includes a num- <br />ber of capital improvement projects <br />that cover a wide range of renova- <br />tions, additions and new facilities. <br />Listed here in the same order as <br />they appear in a summary issued to <br />city council for budget workshop <br />sessions. that concluded this past <br />week, the.projects inciude continu- <br />ing sidewalk cenovations.throughout <br />the city, at a proposed budget total <br />Also, it has been propose d,"laf <br />council , approval, that the city <br />extend Farrington Boulevard north <br />from the Glen Meadows subdivision <br />to North H Street and its intersec- <br />tion with Lomax School Road. The <br />28-foot-wide, two-lane road would <br />have open ditches, and would be <br />positioned to allow for the future <br />addition of two more lanes. The <br />plan would .cost an estimated <br />$321,000. <br />reconstruction of the intersection of <br />Canada Road and Spencer Highway, <br />to align the intersection with t c <br />City of Deer Park's extension of <br />And a third is paving of the p in <br />lot at the Rodco Arena in the Lomax <br />area. <br />Also, it is being proposed that the <br />city relocate the girl's softball pro- <br />gram from Lomax Park to the Little <br />Cedar Bayou Park, at a cost of some <br />$200,000. And combined with <br />S 136,000 from the general obliga- <br />tion bond fund, plans are outlined <br />for a total of $335,500 to be spent <br />completing the parking lot, <br />restroom and pavilion facilities at <br />the city's Scabrcczc Park on <br />Galveston Bay. <br />There are also various joint ven- <br />ture projects with youth sports pro- <br />grams and other such organizations, <br />at a total projected cost of $40,000. <br />A number of community facilities <br />re proposed as well. For instance, <br />-100,000 has been set aside in each <br />f the four previous fiscal years, and <br />combined with $100,000 for (lie <br />upcoming year, totals $500.000 in <br />funds for the construction of a class- <br />room facility at the city's existing <br />Fire Training Field. The facility <br />would also servc as the city's <br />Emergency Operations Center. <br />City Hall renovations arc also <br />included in the capital improvement <br />plan proposals. A total of 5360.000 <br />was earmarked durint the current <br />fiscal year, and another S360.000 is <br />proposed for (lie next fiscal year. <br />Staff proposes to add space to the <br />current Ci(y Hall building, while <br />remodeling and repairing the exist- <br />ing facility as well. The S720.000 <br />earmarked will cover the remodel- <br />ing efforts, and (hc additiona! sp i-c <br />wouldbc ad`dccsscd in a futurc bond <br />package. <br />Another S35,000 is listed to secure <br />archi(cctural services for the possi- <br />blc addition of space at the La Porte <br />Police Department building. And <br />$125,000 is earmarked for (tic build- <br />ing of a storage facility for the city's <br />records. The old lire station in, <br />Fairmont Park is now bcim_ used for <br />this storage. And $65,(H)0 is pro- <br />posed for the acyuistion of land for <br />East Boulevard. That would cost <br />$235.000. And a proposed further <br />extension of South 14th Street north <br />to H Street. with completion of the <br />intersection at that point, would be <br />adjacent to the commercial center <br />now being built next to the Kroger <br />store.
