Council considered approving an ordinance declaring the results of the election held in <br />the City of La Porte on May 5, 2001 for the election of Councilperson At Large Position <br />A; Councilperson District 4; Councilperson District 5. <br />City Attorney read the results of the final canvass of votes at the May 5, 2001 General <br />Election. In the race for Councilperson At Large APosition aRun-off Election will be <br />held on June 2, 2001 between Louis Rigby and Peter Griffiths. In the race for District 4; <br />James Warren 97, Deotis Gay 65. In the race for District 5, Charlie Young was <br />unopposed with 117 votes. Councilperson James Warren was elected. Councilperson <br />Charlie Young was re-elected. <br />City Attorney read: ORDINANCE 2001-2486. - AN ORDINANCE DECLARING THE <br />RESULTS OF THE ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF LA PORTE ON MAY 5, <br />2001, FOR THE ELECTION OF COUNCILPERSONAT LARGE POSITION A; <br />COUNCILPERSON DISTRICT 4; AND COUNCILPERSON DISTRICT 5; FINDING <br />COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING AN <br />EFFECTNE DATE HEREOF. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Clarke to approve the Ordinance as presented by the <br />City Attorney Second by Councilperson Griffiths. The motion carried. <br />Ayes: Sutherland, Engelken, Ebow, Griffiths, Porter, Gay, Young, Clarke and Malone. <br />Nays: None <br />Abstain: None <br />6. Mayor Norman Malone administered the Oath of Office to District 4 Councilperson <br />James Warren and District 5 Councilperson Charlie Young. <br />Council considered approving an ordinance appointing a member of City Council to <br />serve as mayor Pro-Tem for the period of May 9, 2001 through May 7, 2002. <br />City Attorney read ORDINANCE 2001-2488 - AN ORDINANCE APPOINTING A <br />MEMBER OF THE CITY COUNCIL TO SERVE AS MAYOR PRO-TEM OF THE <br />CITY OF LA PORTE, FOR THE PERIOD MAY 9, 2001 THROUGH MAY 7, 2002; <br />FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; PROVIDING AN <br />EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Sutherland to appoint Chuck Engelken as Mayor Pro <br />Tem. Second by Councilperson Porter. The motion carried. <br />Ayes: Sutherland, Engelken, Ebow, Griffiths, Porter, Warren, Young, Clarke and <br />Malone. <br />8. PUBLIC HEARING - Zoning Ordinance -Council discussed the rezone request 15.746 <br />acres of land located on the south side of Spencer Highway between a pipeline easement <br />and Rizzuto Elementary's access drive , to the east of La Porte Fire Station No. 2. <br />Open Public Hearing -Mayor Malone opened the Public Hearing at 6:22 P.M. <br />
