<br />e <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />AND PUBLIC HEARINGS OF LA PORTE CITY COUNCIL <br />OCTOBER 22, 2001 <br /> <br />1. CALL TO ORDER <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order by Mayor Norman Malone at 6:00 p.m. <br /> <br />Members of City Council Present: Councilpersons Guy Sutherland, Chuck Engelken, <br />Howard Ebow, Peter Griffiths, Alton Porter, James Warren, Charlie Young, Jerry Clarke, <br />and Norman Malone. <br /> <br />Members of Council Absent: None <br /> <br />Members of City Executive Staff and City Employees Present: City Manager Robert T. <br />Herrera, City Attorney Knox Askins, Assistant City Manager John Joerns, City Secretary <br />Martha Gillett, Assistant Finance Director Mike Dolby, Director of Administrative <br />Services Carol Buttler, Parks and Recreation Director Stephen Barr, Public Works <br />Director Steve Gillett, Purchasing Manager Susan Kelley, Planning Director Doug <br />Kneupper, Assistant Police Chief Aaron Corrales, Planning Coordinator Masood Malik, <br />and Police Officers Lance Cook, David Huckabee and Jerome McKown. <br /> <br />Others Present: Bill Scott, Bill White, Roy Myers, Dan Dompier, Joeena Davis, Dave <br />Turnquist, George Marek, Nickol Conklin and a number of citizens. <br /> <br />2. Reverend Ron Burnett of Victory Tabernacle delivered the invocation. <br /> <br />3. Council considered approving the minutes of the Regular Meeting on October 8, 2001. <br /> <br />Motion was made by Councilperson Engelken to approve the minutes of the Regular <br />Meeting on October 8. 2001 as presented. Second by Councilperson Sutherland. The <br />motion carried. <br /> <br />Ayes: Sutherland, Engelken, Ebow, Porter, Warren, Young, Clarke, and Malone. <br />Nays: None <br />Abstain: Griffiths <br /> <br />4. PETITIONS, REMONSTRANCES, COMMUNICATIONS, AND CITIZENS AND <br />T AXP AYERS WISHING TO ADDRESS COUNCIL <br /> <br />The following citizens addressed City Council. <br /> <br />Dave Turnquist - 8503 Ashwyne Lane, La Porte, Texas 77571, addressed Council <br />concerning ideas suggested by his students, regarding issues in La Porte, to provide a <br />forum of young people within our town to discuss and share ideas to help make La Porte <br />a better place. Mr. Turnquist presented handouts for Council. <br />
