<br />e <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />City Council Minutes 8-12-02 - Page 2 <br /> <br />Mayor Norman Malone presented Glenda and Mike Collins with the Proclamation in <br />recognition of "Leukemia and Lymphoma Awareness Month". <br /> <br />Director of Finance Cynthia Alexander, Assistant Director of Finance Michael Dolby, <br />Budget/Investment Officer Shelley Wolny and Secretary Gay Collins were recognized with <br />the "Distinguished Budget Presentation Award". <br /> <br />6. PETITIONS, REMONSTRANCES, COMMUNICATIONS, AND CITIZENS AND <br />T AXP AYERS WISHING TO ADDRESS CITY COUNCIL <br /> <br />Bill Scott of 1802 Lomax School Road, La Porte, Texas, provided a handout regarding his <br />comments to the editorial notes in the Bayshore Sun. Mr. Scott commented on the proposed <br />Travel Policy Committee; he would like a broader base of taxpayers on this Committee. Mr. <br />Scott is opposed to the proposed fueling station/convenience store; too close to a residential <br />neighborhood, noise and air pollution, in vicinity of a school and other various reasons. <br /> <br />Gary Shaw of 31 02 Oaken Lane, La Porte, Texas, voiced his concerns of standing water, <br />mosquitoes, and piles of dirt and grass on Fairmont Park Baptist's Church property behind <br />his home. <br /> <br />Tom Deen of230 Garfield, La Porte, Texas, presented petitions against the SCU Permit 02- <br />002 for the fueling station/convenience store on behalf of the Old Highway 146 Committee. <br /> <br />Aki Momin of 14619 Underwood Creekway, Houston, Texas, spoke against the proposed <br />fueling station/convenience store on Barbours Cut Boulevard. <br /> <br />Mary Gay of214 N. 9th Street, La Porte, Texas, is in favor of the proposed fueling <br />station/convenience store. <br /> <br />Penny Garcia of 311 0 Oaken Lane, La Porte, Texas, spoke in favor of a noise ordinance. <br />She distributed a copy of the City of Pasadena's noise ordinance. <br /> <br />Nick Barrera of 9510 Carlow Lane, La Porte, Texas, voiced his opinion against Council <br />spouses having paid travel by the City. Mr. Barrera suggested the City make this a policy <br />and enforce it. Regarding the proposed fueling station/convenience store, Mr. Barrera feels <br />the City should go with the majority of what the citizens want. Mr. Barrera would like there <br />to be term limits on Councilmembers and the Mayor. <br /> <br />Jesus Napoles of 622 Preston Road, Pasadena, Texas, approves of the fueling <br />station/convenience store and would like the community to realize the job opportunities it <br />would bring. <br /> <br />Paula Bridges of 813 River Creek, La Porte, Texas, questions the cost of the independent <br />audit and if the public will be absorbing the cost. Ms Bridges apologized to Council for the <br />citizens whom are questioning the integrity of their travel costs and thanked them for serving <br />the City. <br /> <br />Barbara Norwine of 202 South Lobit, La Porte, Texas, feels the City needs improved <br />maintenance services in areas. Ms Norwine suggested lowering the cost of baseball leagues <br />so low-income families could participate, the wrecking yard on Main Street needs to be <br />
