Assistant City Manager John Joerns presented summary and recommendation and answered Council's questions. Assistant City Attorney Clark Askins read RESOLUTION 2005-19 - A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING THE POLICY OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE CONCERNING AN ORDINANCE VACATING, ABANDONING AND CLOSING A PORTION OF THE SOUTH "R" STREET RIGHT-OF-WAY BETWEEN BLOCKS 1218 AND 1255, TOWN OF LA PORTE, HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS; AN ORDINANCE VACATING, ABANDONING AND CLOSING A PORTION OF THE PARK AVENUE RIGHT-OF-WAY; AND AN ORDINANCE VACATING ABANDONING AND CLOSING THE ALLEYS IN BLOCK 1218 AND 1255, TOWN OF LA PORTE, HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS; FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. Motion was made by Councilmember Clausen to aoprove Resolution 2005-19 as presented bv Mr. Joerns. Second by Council member Griffiths. The motion carried unanimously. Ayes: Engelken, Moser, Clausen, Griffiths, Rigby and Porter. Nays: None Abstain: None 9. Council to consider approval or other action regarding an ordinance authorizing the City Manager to execute the Agreement with the Buxton Company. Assistant City Manager John Joerns presented summary and recommendation and answered Council's questions. Assistant City Attorney Clark Askins read ORDINANCE 2847- AN ORDINANCE APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF LA PORTE AND THE BUXTON COMPANY, ("CONTRACTOR"), FOR AN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT STUDY FOCUSING ON RETAIL OPPORTUNITIES; APPROPRIATING $63,000.00 PLUS A CONTINGENCY OF $7,000.00 TO FUND SAID CONTRACT; MAKING VARIOUS FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATING TO THE SUBJECT, FINDING COMPLIANCE WITH THE OPEN MEETINGS LAW; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. Motion was made bv Councilmember Griffiths to approve Ordinance 2847 as oresented by Mr. Joerns. Second by Council member Clausen. The motion carried unanimously. Ayes: Engelken, Moser, Clausen, Griffiths, Rigby and Porter. Nays: None Abstain: None 10. Council to consider approval or other action regarding an ordinance approving an agreement between the City and the La Porte-Bayshore Chamber of Commerce and/or amendments.
