PETITIONS, REMONSTRANCES, COMMUNICATIONS, AND CITIZENS AND TAX <br />PAYERS WISHING TO ADDRESS COUNCIL ON ANY ITEM POSTED ON THE <br />AGENDA. <br />There were no citizens wishing to address City Council. <br />7. Public Hearing — Council to consider direction on a resolution authorizing the submission of <br />two nominations for the Statewide Transportation Enhancement Program administered by <br />TxDOT, committing the City to fund 20% match in accordance with established guidelines. <br />Open Public Hearing - Mayor Porter opened the Public Hearing at 6:14 p.m. <br />Parks & Recreation Director Stephen Barr and Main Street Coordinator Debra Dye presented <br />summary and recommendation and answered Council's questions. <br />Public Input: Bobby Schlenk — 620 South 4ch Street, La Porte, Texas 77571, informed Council <br />he is neautral on this item. <br />Brent Heckendorm — 518 West Main, La Porte, Texas 77571 — voiced his concerns with the <br />angle parking which could affect traffic flow on Main Street causing a decline in business <br />operations. <br />David Bailey — 222 S. Broadway, La Porte, Texas 77571 — informed Council he was for the <br />beautification on Main Street, but had concerns with the angle parking that would compound <br />the traffic flow from Barbous Cut at peak traffic hours. <br />Kathleen Lemon — 601 West Main, La Porte, Texas 77571 — favored improvements on Main <br />Street but informed Council she has concerns with reducing from four lanes to two lanes on a <br />portion of Main Street. Traffic in not an issue where her business in located. <br />J.J. Meza — Main Street, La Porte, Texas 77571 — informed Council he is in favor of <br />development in La Porte, but has concerns with angle parking on Main Street. Mr. Meza <br />mentioned angle parking had been attempted before and additional parking will not be gained. <br />Angle parking would create a greater problem pulling out of parking spaces rather than <br />parallel parking. Mr. Meza also informed Council proper maintenance and funding must be <br />maintained for buildings that are acquired within the City of La Porte. <br />
