October 13, 2008

City Secretary
City of La Porte, Texas
City Hall
604 W. Fairmont Pkwy
La Porte TX 77571

I am a member of the La Porte Senior Center, located in the Recreation and
Fitness Center on South Broadway. I am also President of the Senior Site
Council made up of all Senior Center members.

On a number of occasions during Council meetings, it has been brought up that
visitors to our Center have been lost, misdirected or otherwise been unable to
find us. This is particularly true on Senior Dance evening, when most of the
attendees are from out of town.

In a very informal survey taken by me at a local food store, 8 of the 10 adult
La Portians surveyed did not know the location of the Senior Center. One thought
it was on San Jacinto St. (Evelyn Kennedy Center-close but no cigar) and one
person was not even aware that we had one.

At a recent Site Council meeting, a motion was passed to have the Senior Center
identified more prominently.

It was voted unanimously that what could be more fitting than to honor one of our
seniors who spent many hours at the center visiting with members, playing
dominoes and enjoying the company of his fellow seniors.

Enclosed with this letter is an Application For Naming A City Of La Porte Facility
for our dearly beloved Norman Malone. The proposed name is:
NORMAN MALONE RECREATION, FITNESS & SENIOR CENTER

It is hoped the 5 year after death provision of Ordinance No.2000-2443 be
waived and the building dedication be held March7, to coincide with the Red
Suspenders Shrimp Boil, benefiting the La Porte Special Olympics.

Respectfully SUb~jtl~

Y D ham
1101 Willow Creek Dr.
La Porte TX 77571
281-470-0310
