• <br />MINUTES <br />OF <br />CITY OF LA PORTE <br />CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION <br />ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING <br />SEPTEMBER 14, 1981 <br /> <br />Hudgens: The first item on the agenda is the organization and selection of a <br />Civil Service Chairman and Vice Chairman and since we don't have a Chairman <br />yet, if you don't mind, I'll serve as Chairman til you all decide who is~going <br />to be Chairman. <br />Trainer: We have, what, a Chairman to appoint, a Vice Chairman and then the <br />Director? <br />Hudgens: Director? <br />Trainer: Yeah, what's called a director? Do we have to do that? <br />Hudgens: Is there a provision for a Director? Oh, no - ah - Mary's the Director. <br />Tact provides that the City has a - ah - a person regardless of what they <br />shall be called, they shall become the Civil Service Director and Mary has been <br />(. our Personnel Coordinator for nigh on to three years now, so--- <br />Trainer: The Act calls that if there is a Personnel Manager in the City, that <br />person will act as the Director to the Commission? <br />Hudgens: Right, and will serve as secretary, keep the minutes, post the meetings. <br />Trainer: I don't have any problem with that, I just didn't read it in that Act. <br />Hudgens: (to Davis) Do you have a copy of the--of the--do you know what section <br />t~Fiat~s in? <br />Trainer: I can't think of anybody any better to do it, I'll tell you that. <br />Randall: I'll second that. <br />Trainer: It's just that, ah--- <br />H-ud9ens-: It is provided, however, that in those cities which have a duly and <br />eal _ally constituted Director of Civil Service, by whatever name he shall be called, <br />said Director shall be the Director of the Firemen and Policemen's Civil Service, <br />but he shall administer Civil Service pertaining to Firemen and Policemen in, <br />accordance with this law. <br />~•. <br /> <br />
