<br /> <br />• CIVIL SERVICE <br />COMMISSION MEETING <br />SEPTEMBER 10, 1984 <br />MINUTES <br />PRESENT: Chief Freeman, Keith Trainer, Weldon Randall, Jim Longnecker, and <br />Mary Davis. <br />ABSENT: None <br />• <br />The meeting of the Civil Service Commission was called to order by the Chairman, <br />Keith Trainer. <br />The minutes of the July 26, 1983 meeting were read and approved. <br />Chairman Trainer informed those present that the purpose of this meeting was <br />for the annual Police Department tour and departmental presentation as prescribed <br />by 1269m, Sec. 5a. The purpose of which is to provide Commission with a <br />laymen's knowledge of the structure and workings of the department. <br />Chief Freeman presented the Department organizational chart and explained how <br />the Department is divided by divisions. The Commission then asked questions <br />and the departmental tour followed. <br />Upon completion of the tour, the Commission reconvened in the Police Chief's <br />office. The Chief informed the Commission of training which is given to <br />all new and existing Police personnel. Some of the seminars given are: Police <br />liability, pursuit driving, forgery, narcotics, crime prevention and various <br />other topics. Chief Freeman stated that first-year requirements for a new <br />Officer include 320 hours of classroom training in order to become a Certified <br />Police Officer. Scheduled training for the next budget year include: eight <br />hours of training on "Shoot, don't Shoot", with instructors training included; <br />additional training in Police Liability; drug awareness training program which <br />will be used to take to industry, schools, and citizen homes; training more <br />field training officers; Profile training; Crime investigation courses; and <br />additional training in pursuit driving. Chief Freeman informed Commission that <br />he has asked for a Crime Prevention/Community Relations Officer. <br />Re: Sergeant Promotional Exams. The Commission decided to hold the Sergeant <br />exams on November 1, 1984, at 2:00 P.M. in the Police Department Training Room. <br />There being no further business, Chairman Trainer moved that the meeting be <br />adjourned.
