O� 4 City of La Pc), rte Chairman Keith Trainer F Op Commissioner Oeb Ga//ington SerVICe Commission Commissioner Les Bird cs m 604 W_ Fairmont Parkway g �' Director Patrice Fo a La Porte, Texas 77571 281-470-501 9 Minutes of the City of La Porte Civil Service Commission Meetinci Held October 29, 201 S. at 10:30 a.m. The Civil Service Commission of the City of La Porte met in a meeting on Thursday, October 29, 2015, at the City Hall Council Chambers, 604 West Fairmont Parkway, La Porte, Texas, at 10:30 a.m. to consider the following items of business: 1 _ Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 10:30 a-m, Members present: Keith Trainer, Les Bird, and Sabra Gallington 2_ Consider approval of minutes from the October 15, 2015, meeting_ Commissioner Gallington made a motion to approve the October 15. 2015, minutes as presented. Motion passed unanimously. 3_ Discussion/Action —Appoint members to a Committee to review the City of La Porte Police Officers' Civil Service Rules and Reg uiations. Chairman Trainer requested a Committee be established to review existing local civil service rules and procedures to ensure compliance and agreement with Chapter 143 of the Texas Local Government Code, and he asked that this Committee eliminate local rules which are duplications of state Iaw. It was determined by the Commission that the Committee will set their deadlines. The Director will set some goals/parameters so the Committee Keeps moving. It was suggested the Commission adopt a rule/procedure for timely review of Local Civil Service Rules and Procedures after each legislative session. Commissioner Bird stated he would like to have a Commissioner on the Committee, and Commissioner Gallington stated she would be willing to be the Commissioner member on the Committee. Commissioner Bird made a motion to appoint a Committee that will be tasked with reviewing the rules and regulations governing the police officers' civil service in accordance with Chapter 143, oc Lal Government Code; and the Committee will be comprised of Chief Adcox, Asst. Chiefs 14 Parker and �or eardrf, Lt. Matt Dearner, Direc tor Patrice Fogarty and Commissioner O,o6ra Gallington, with Commissioner Les Bird as an alternate to Commissioner Gallington. Commissioner Gallington seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously- 4- Commission Comments — Commissioner Bird asked about future civil service training. Director Fogarty will find out when civil service training will taka place and share that information with the Commission. 5_ Administrative Reports — Director Fogarty updated the Commission on the upcoming promotional exams. 6_ Set the date For the next meeting — There was no meeting data set.
