• • <br />Page 2 <br />Mr. O'Connor distributed a report and advised the group he would like to set a date for a <br />special sub-committee meeting. <br />Gwen Goodwin informed the committee they needed to consider and bethinking about <br />Questionnaire Assistance Center Locations. <br />Tim Snider provided a report from the business committee. In addition, he presented the <br />group with a flyer that can be distributed to citizens. The committee discussed the flyer <br />and offered Mr. Snider a few additional areas to be noted in the flyer. Mr. Snider advised <br />the group the business committee would be working closely with the media sub- <br />committee. This committee will work with the Chamber of Commerce on mail outs and <br />work with other businesses in the community to help promote the Census Count. <br />Vicky Abshire suggested businesses get a stamp that reads "Census 2000" to stamp sales <br />receipts as citizens make purchases at local businesses. <br />Jo Davis offered assistance with helping promote the Census with La Porte Plant <br />Managers Association and EHCMA. In addition, she suggested the group provide <br />information through newsletters. <br />Beth Rickert provided a report from the Education Committee. She recently met with <br />Ms. Goodwin and received a packet io be utilized by school districts. She is working <br />with teachers to provide them the curriculum to be used in working with students. She <br />will also coordinate a presentation to the school board members. She will ensure the <br />home schooled children receive the information as well. <br />Vicky Abshire provided a report from the Community Based Organizations. Vicky plans <br />on having asub-committee meeting in December. She is working with such <br />organizations as Head Start, Rotary International, Neighborhood Centers and other social <br />organizations. <br />Father Tom Rafferty provided the committee with a report from the Religion sub- <br />committee. He announced he is resigning from the committee due to being transferred to <br />a Church in Houston. He has enjoyed working in the City of La Porte. Father Rafferty <br />will be informing the Ministerial Alliance a report so they can seek volunteers to assist <br />from local churches. In addition, there will be groups from churches visiting homes and <br />they will visit with citizens about the Census in addition to church business. He will <br />encourage churches to put articles promoting the Census in church bulletins and on <br />bulletin boards. <br />IV. Identify Hard To Enumerate Areas <br />Ms. Goodwin was pleased to report the City of La Porte did not have any hard to <br />enumerate areas in the last census. <br />V. Overview of the Census 2000 Questionnaires <br />Ms. Goodwin provided the committee with the long and short census forms. <br />
