<br />City of La Porte <br />Census 2000 <br />Complete Count Committee Meeting <br />Minutes of April 25, 2000 <br />Members Present: Beth Rickert, Joeena Davis, Tim O'Connor, Mark Snider and Lorraine <br />Jeffery. <br />Members Absent: Jeannie Zemanek, Colleen Hicks, Beth Rickert, Mazlin Fenn, Tom <br />Rawls, Kathy Alberts, Ada Bowen, Wayne Spears, Susan Pazastaz, Steve <br />Jacks, Randy Gilchrist, Vicky Abshire, Mazk Snider, Linda Barley, and <br />Debra Kurz. <br />Others Present: Dionne Roberts, Census Bureau <br />City Staff Present: City Secretary Martha Gillett and Planning Coordinator Masood Malik. <br />I. CALL TO ORDER. <br />Committee Member Mazk Snider served as Chairman of this meeting and called the meeting to <br />order at 5:45 P.M. <br />II. CONSIDER APPROVING MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING ON MARCH 21, <br />2000. <br />Motion was made by Tim O'Connor to accept the minutes as presented. A second by <br />Joeena Davis. The motion carried unanimously. <br />III. PLAN ACTIVITIES FOR THE NON-RESPONSE FOLLOW-UP OPERATION. <br />Census Bureau staff member Dionne Roberts thanked the group for all their hard work <br />and advised this would be the last committee meeting. She further advised the Census <br />Bureau workers would begin visiting residents Thursday, Apri127, 2000, They will be <br />visiting homes that have not turned in their Census Questionnaire. Census workers are <br />required to wear an I.D. Badge and provide identification if requested. <br />July 7, 2000 will end the enumeration process. <br />Committee members shared concerns they received from citizens regarding the process <br />and the length of the long form. <br />Tim O'Connor suggested the census process be simplified. <br />IV. KEEP THE CENSUS AWARENESS MOMENTUM STRONG. <br />Committee members agreed that although there would not be additional committee <br />meetings that each member should continue to promote the census in the community. <br />
