• <br />2005 LA PORTE COMPREHENSIVE PLAN REVIEW COMMITTEE <br />MINUTES OF JUNE 2, 2005 <br />COMMITTEE MEMBERS PRESENT: Betty Waters, Ed Matuszak, John Tomerlin, David Brady, Chester Pool <br />MEMBER ABSENT: None <br />MEMBERS OF THE AUDIENCE: None <br />CITY STAFF PRESENT: Planning Director Wayne Sabo, City Planner Masood Malik <br />CALL TO ORDER <br />Meeting called to order by Chairperson Ms. Waters at 7:05 p.m. <br />2. INTRODUCTION AND OPENNING REMARKS <br />Members introduced, opening remarks by Mr. Sabo, explained the goals and objectives of the 2005 <br />Comprehensive Plan Review. <br />La Porte 2020 Comprehensive Plan is a 20 year master plan intended to serve as an official document, <br />adopted by City Council some five years ago. Texas Local Government Code, Chapter 219 requires plan <br />review after every 3-5 years period. The review committee was approved by City Council at the May 9, <br />2005, meeting. Ms. Betty waters completed an initial review of the plan. At the conclusion, the plan requires <br />an updated addendum and not an extensive rewrite of the plan itself. <br />3. CONSIDER DISCUSSION AND REVIEW OF THE COMPREHENSIVE PLAN <br />Ms. Waters explained the review process and emphasized members to look at the plan and its projections <br />for first five years; what was accomplished or achieved and to list the accomplishments over the last 5 years <br />and to set the goals for the next five years. <br />4. IDENTIFY PROCEDURES AND AREAS OF CONCENTRATION <br />The Committee discussed proposed schedule for the review process. The members will review chapters 1-6 <br />on June 30th and the remaining chapters on July 18th at 7:00 PM in Conf. Room B. Each member will then <br />begin to schedule meetings with department heads to review what has been accomplished in their areas <br />within the Comprehensive Plan, what is ongoing and what is expected in the near future. The members will <br />also ask if any goal is unattainable. The following committee members volunteered to focus on the <br />commodity area as indicated: <br />Betty Waters -Fire/EMS & Public Safety <br />David Brady -Planning, Community/Economic Development <br />Ed Matuszak -Public Works <br />John Tomerlin -Parks & Recreation <br />Chester Pool -Main Street District (Redevelopment Strategies) <br />The Committee would like to have several follow-up meetings in August. After reviewing, the committee will <br />forward the updated addendum to the Planning and Zoning Commission in September. <br />5. ADJOURN <br />Chairperson Waters adjourned the meeting at 8:05 p.m. <br />
