Mr. Ron Bottoms, City Manager k I o t z It a s s o c i a t e s <br />October 1, 2008 <br />Page 23 of 31 <br />• If not properly designed, delivery of runoff waters to the regional detention <br />facility from source areas may have adverse effects on upstream or <br />downstream proper -ties. <br />• The owner is liable for deficiencies in pond operation and maintenance <br />NoTleme "84-me witegival"'ral 0114rA111$W11JJ6 21-1 <br />5.1.4 Channel Modifications <br />Channel modifications are generally made to increase the capacity of the channel. <br />However, in addition to capacity increases, channel modifications can have to - <br />following benefits and challenges: <br />• Lowering water levels for similar flows, with resulting lowering tailwater <br />levels for storm sewer systems discharging -to the channel. <br />• Improvement in aesthetics <br />• Improvements in habitat along the channel <br />• Reduction in bank and/or bottom erosion <br />• It may difficult to enlarge a channel in an already developed areas because of <br />limited right-of-way <br />• Access for enlarging a channel may be limited or virtually absent <br />• A channel improvement may require coordination with or permission of an <br />agency, such as HCFCD, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, or TxDOT <br />• Channel improvements may also require detention or other mitigation features <br />Channel modifications for improving capacity can assume a variety of forms, as <br />follows: <br />• Widening of channel, with or without side slope modification <br />• Channel flow line adjustment so that channel becomes steeper <br />• Lateral shifting or realignment of channel to shorten its length and/or reduce <br />loss producing curves or junctions <br />• Increasing the steepness of side slopes (using concrete or similar material) to <br />both increase the channel area and reduce roughness <br />• Use smooth materials (e.g., concrete) to line the channel and reduce friction <br />losses <br />Any channel modification must recognize possible need for increased easement or <br />right-of-way. <br />When channel improvements are made, consideration should be given to storm <br />water quality controls for the channel; such controls can include channel erosion <br />
