CITY OF LA PORTE FIRE CODE REVIEW BOARD ORIGINAL MINUTES OF MEETING SEPTEMBER 21, 2004 Members Present: Richard Browder, Bryan Moore, Jim Suber, Tom Handy, and Tom Hayes Members Absent: Louis Heintschel, Floyd Craft, Emery Farkas, and Sam Brechtel Staff Present: Fire Marshal Laurie Christensen 1. CALL TO ORDER Workshop meeting called to order at 6:12 P.M. by Fire Marshal Laurie Christensen. 2. INTRODUCTION OF FIRE MARSHAL AND BOARD MEMBERS Board Members and Ms. Christensen introduced themselves and provided some background information relating to job experience to date. 3. UPDATE FIRE REVIEW BOARD ON ACTIVITIES OF FIRE MARSHAL'S OFFICE Ms. Christensen spoke about the activities of her office. Numerous checklists have been prepared to assist with increased inspections. A plan of action has been created for inspection of car dealerships, day care centers, nursing/foster homes, hotels/motels, airport facilities, churches, city facilities, small businesses, etc. Ms. Christensen presented a slide presentation, which provided a more detailed description of ongoing activities. 4. REVIEW PREVIOUS PRACTICES OF BOARD Board Members provided Ms. Christensen with useful information relating to previous practices. Richard Browder served the Board as Chairperson and Tom Handy as Vice-Chairperson. Prior to each meeting, Board Members received an agenda and packet of information relating to the items on the agenda. Meetings were not held regularly, but rather on an as needed basis. 5. REVIEW PREVIOUS FIRE CODE AMENDMENTS Brief discussion to provide clarification on numerous local fire code amendments. 6. REVIEW PROCESS FOR AMENDING ORDINANCES Previously, Board Members received information to review prior to the meeting. During the meeting, Board Members would consider items and their recommendations were reflected in the minutes of the meeting. Ms. Christensen informed the Board they would soon begin working on updating the Fire Code.
