BOX 12577 AUSTIN TEXAS 78711-2577 (800)919-3372 FAX (512) 936-3480 <br />http://www.ffpc.state.tx.us emailto:info@ffpc.state.tx.us <br />SERVICE RETIREMENT CERTIFICATION <br /> <br />Qualified service means service: <br />(A) for a participating department that is recognized as an emergency services department by its governing body and that conducts at least 48 hours <br />of training in a calendar year; and <br />(B) that is performed by a member in good standing in the department who attends at least 20 hours of annual training and at least 25 percent of the <br />department's emergencies in a calendar year or who does not attend because the member is absent because of military duty. <br /> <br />PROCEDURE FOR CORRECTING ERRORS IN ENROLLMENT OR QUALIFIED SERVICE <br /> <br />Under Board rule 9302.5, a local board may correct an error in enrollment, in membership, or computation of qualified service by sending a letter <br />to the Commissioner, signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the local board, as well as the administrative head of the participating department, <br />and accompanied by a copy of the minutes of the local board meeting where approval of the change(s) were made. <br /> <br />Upon receipt of a letter from the local board correcting the applicant's enrollment or service history, the FFPC will correct the applicant's pension <br />record and bill the governing entity for any additional contributions. The FFPC will send the applicant and the local board a corrected Service <br />Retirement Certification with the adjusted service retirement annuity amount based upon the applicant's revised qualified service history. <br /> <br />A person aggrieved by a decision of a local board, relating to eligibility for or the amount of benefits, may appeal the decision to the Commissioner <br />in accordance with the provisions of Government Code 9864.016. Written notice must be filed with the local board not later than the 20th day <br />after the date of the decision, and a copy provided to the Commissioner. <br /> <br />Page 4 of 4 <br />
