THE CITY OF LA PORTE MEET & CONFER COMMITTEE MET THE 14th DAY OF APRIL, 2009, 2:00 P.M. AT POLICE DEPARTMENT, TRAINING ROOM, 3001 NORTH 23RD STREET, LA PORTE, TEXAS. 1. CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at approximately 2:00 p.m.. 2. MEMBERS FROM THE CITY OF LA PORTE AND THE LA PORTE POLICE OFFICERS ASSOCIATION (LPPOA) IN ATTENDANCE Ron Bottoms, City Manager John Joerns, Assistant City Manager Ken Adcox, Chief of Police Heather Weger, Human Resources Manager Matt Novosad, Patrol Officer - LPPOA Member Matt Daeumer, Patrol Sergeant - LPPOA Member Sherman Moore - Patrol Officer - LPPOA Member Audience: Tom Barby, Mike Mosteit 3. MINUTES FROM APRIL 3, 2009 WERE APPROVED. 4. OPEN DISCUSSION RELATING TO ITEMS PREVIOUSLY INTRODUCED BY POLICE ASSOCIATION AND/OR THE CITY OF LA PORTE a) The City and Association are in agreement on salaries. The salaries will be effective May I, 2009 and January I, 20 I O. The contract will run through April 201 I. b) The Association had proposals for the City to review in regard to sick time usage. The City met and discussed the proposals and it was agreed that sick time would be pulled from the contract. c) Grievance procedures in relation to evaluations and the contract in general were discussed. For evaluation purposes the grievance should be followed as per the City personnel handbook. If not resolved, the Civil Service Commission would be utilized for these grievances. In regard to the contract, all grievances have to go through and be filed by the Association. After discussion, the City and Association were agreeable to terms. d) The City will have a legal review of the contract and have an attorney draft the contract. Once that is done, and the Association approves the contract, the contract will be taken before City Council.
