<br />THE CITY OF LA PORTE MEET & CONFER COMMITTEE MET THE 14th DAY <br />OF APRIL, 2009, 2:00 P.M. AT POLICE DEPARTMENT, TRAINING ROOM, 3001 <br />NORTH 23RD STREET, LA PORTE, TEXAS. <br /> <br />1. CALL TO ORDER <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order at approximately 2:00 p.m.. <br /> <br />2. MEMBERS FROM THE CITY OF LA PORTE AND THE LA PORTE <br />POLICE OFFICERS ASSOCIATION (LPPOA) IN ATTENDANCE <br /> <br />Ron Bottoms, City Manager <br />John Joerns, Assistant City Manager <br />Ken Adcox, Chief of Police <br />Heather Weger, Human Resources Manager <br />Matt Novosad, Patrol Officer - LPPOA Member <br />Matt Daeumer, Patrol Sergeant - LPPOA Member <br />Sherman Moore - Patrol Officer - LPPOA Member <br /> <br />Audience: <br />Tom Barby, Mike Mosteit <br /> <br />3. MINUTES FROM APRIL 3, 2009 WERE APPROVED. <br /> <br />4. OPEN DISCUSSION RELATING TO ITEMS PREVIOUSLY INTRODUCED BY <br />POLICE ASSOCIATION AND/OR THE CITY OF LA PORTE <br /> <br />a) The City and Association are in agreement on salaries. The salaries will be <br />effective May I, 2009 and January I, 20 I O. The contract will run through <br />April 201 I. <br /> <br />b) The Association had proposals for the City to review in regard to sick time <br />usage. The City met and discussed the proposals and it was agreed that sick <br />time would be pulled from the contract. <br /> <br />c) Grievance procedures in relation to evaluations and the contract in general <br />were discussed. For evaluation purposes the grievance should be followed as <br />per the City personnel handbook. If not resolved, the Civil Service <br />Commission would be utilized for these grievances. In regard to the <br />contract, all grievances have to go through and be filed by the Association. <br />After discussion, the City and Association were agreeable to terms. <br /> <br />d) The City will have a legal review of the contract and have an attorney draft <br />the contract. Once that is done, and the Association approves the contract, <br />the contract will be taken before City Council. <br />
