APPOINT ACTING CHAIRMAN OF PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION - <br />Motion by Mr. Roberson, seconded by Mr. Christensen to <br />appoint Mr. J. H. Smith, Acting Chairman of the Planning <br />and Zoning Commission. Motion carried by the following <br />vote: <br />AYES: Wm. R. Shedelbower, C. D. Christensen, and <br />K. R. Beverly. <br />NAYS: None. <br />+ + + <br />5. DISCUSS REZONING REQUEST OF G. HAYES HAMILTON - Mr. G. <br />Hayes Hamilton addressed the Commission, requesting the <br />rezoning of Lots 1 thru 6, Lots 9 thru 32, Block 684, <br />Town of La Porte, County of Harris, State of Texas, <br />from residential to commercial. The purpose of the <br />rezoning is to build a nursery and garden center. <br />Mr. Hamilton stated that the land would be landscaped <br />and comparable to a Wolfs' Nursery. <br />• <br />After considerable discussion, motion by Mr. Smith, <br />seconded by Mr. Christensen to recommend to the City <br />Commission that the East 1/2 of Block 645, all of <br />Blocks 646, 647, 648; the East 1/2 of Block 652, all <br />of Blocks 651, 650, 649; the East 1/2 of 681, all of <br />Blocks 682, 683, 684; the East 1/2 of Block 688, all <br />of Blocks 687, 686, and 685 be reclassified from <br />residential to commercial, and no special use permits <br />be allowed. Motion carried by the following vote: <br />AYES: J. H. Smith, Wm. R. Shedelbower, C. D. Christensen, <br />and K. R. Beverly. <br />NAYS: None. <br />+ + + <br />6. DISCUSS LETTER FROM DECKER MC KIM - After a brief <br />discussion regarding a letter of request for the rezoning <br />of property in Blocks 652 and Block 681, Town of La Porte, <br />from residential to industrial. The Acting Secretary was <br />instructed to notify Mr. McKim that this property was <br />under consideration for reclassification to commercial <br />but not industrial. <br />• <br />
