MINUTES <br />OF THE <br />PUBLIC HEARING AND REGULAR MEETING OF THE <br />LA PORTS PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION <br />SEPTEMBER 6, 1984 <br />1. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Doug Latimer <br />at 7:00 P.M. <br />Members of the Commission Present: Chairman Doug Latimer, <br />Members Bruce Hammack, Lola Phillips, Janet Graves, Bobby <br />Blackwell <br />Members of the Commission Absent: Karl Johnston, Charlie <br />Doug Boy e <br />Cit Staff Present: Assistant City Attorney John Armstrong, <br />Chie Building Official David Paulissen, Director of Community <br />Development John Joerns, City Engineer Bob Speake, Assistant <br />City Secretary Laura Hall <br />Others Present: Mr. James Alexander, Mr. Myrl Peterson, <br />Mr. H. A. Pickens, Mr. Don Grisham representing Gulf Southern <br />Engineering <br />2. The Commission considered approving the minutes of the <br />Public Hearing and Regular Meeting held on August 13, 1984. <br />Chairman Latimer asked if any member of the Commission had <br />additions or corrections to the minutes as presented. No one <br />did. <br />Motion was made by Bruce Hammack to approve the minutes as <br />presented. Second by Janet Graves. The motion carried, <br />5 ayes, 0 nays, 2 abstaining (because of their absence). <br />Ayes: Latimer, Graves, <br />Nays: None <br />Abstain: Karl Johnston, <br />Hammack, Phillips, Blackwell <br />Charlie Doug Boyle <br />3A. Chairman Latimer called the Public Hearing to order to consider <br />the request of James B. Alexander to rezone Lots 18 and 19, <br />Block 1 of Spenwick Place, Section I from residential to <br />commercial to allow the establishment of a commercial rental <br />business . <br />1. Those wishing to speak in favor of the rezoning request: <br />• Mr. James Alexander spoke in favor of the request stating that <br />._ he had a buyer for the property who wished to establish a <br />commercial rental business. He stated that the existing properties <br />in this area were also commercial and he could see no reason for <br />this piece of property to remain otherwise. <br />
