It would increase adequate rail service for future <br />industries. <br />B. Encourage growth <br />C. Allow office warehousing distribution facilities in a <br />planned manner as opposed to a hodge-podge of mixed <br />commercial, residential or heavy industrial uses <br />presently allowed under existing zoning. <br />D. Increase employment and payroll. <br />E. Attract Industries through adequate rail service. <br />F. Provide more safety <br />G. Reduce Congestion and switching by car storage. <br />H. Development between planned storage yard and Highway <br />146, congestion will be better controlled. <br />• Mr. Osborn also pointed out that there is a lake on the 121 <br />acres and Southern Pacific will be draining and filling <br />this lake. He pointed out that some of the most <br />significant points are that (1) drainage improvements will <br />benefit the entire property upstream and downstream, and <br />(2) Southern Pacific would appreciate immediate action on <br />their petition in the best interest of the City of La <br />Porte. <br />Mr. Osborn requested that Southern Pacific's petition go <br />before the City Staff and Council. <br />Chairman Latimer asked if Mr. Osborn was requesting two <br />petitions or one? <br />Mr. Osborn stated that the 121 acres was the key here. <br />John Armstrong said that the Commission would treat this as <br />one request even though there are two petitions. <br />Bob Speake told how the whole acreage plan would tie into <br />the City's Comprehensive Plan. <br />Chairman Latimer asked if any member had anything to say. <br />He then said they would schedule a workshop at the end of <br />the month or for the first of June. <br />• <br />
