• ~ • <br />Page Three <br />'' June 17, 1985 <br />Proposed Community Facility & Safety Plans <br />• <br />Runway markings and lighting and other navigational aids will <br />be upgraded to accommodate non-precision instrument <br />approaches. <br />The airport consultants recommend that the City purchase <br />small parcels of land at the NW, NE and SE corners of the <br />airport property. These parcels lie within the runway Clear <br />Zones in which no obstructions to aircraft guide paths should <br />be permitted. <br />Finally, the consultants provided specific guidelines to that <br />height hazard and land use zoning regulations for the airport <br />and its surrounds may be included in the City's proposed new <br />zoning ordinance. <br />SAFETY PLAN <br />The aspect of this plan dealing with emergency evacuation of the <br />City was presented to the Cornmission by the Staff on April -18. <br />This memorandum addresses the part of the Safety Plan dealing with <br />emergency shelters. <br />• Table ----2, -following, -speaks to the need to expand City facilities <br />to maintain an acceptable level of municipal services as the City <br />grows. These services include response to emergency situations. <br />Exhibit 16 of Reference 2 designates public emergency shelters <br />which are the existing and proposed schools, hospitals, community <br />centers, and government buildings shown on Exhibit 14 of Reference <br />1A. <br />The. safety aspects of the master planning effort revealed a need <br />rp,.r a _C; t,y,..,Ecr~e-r_gen.c.y. _operation.s..._..P,],.ars._.:-i..a}~.-...a~l-so--..r.-afl~e~ts-.-,:..City <br />participation in a regional evacuation plan. The consultants <br />recommend that the City promote such a regional plan, as well as <br />improvements to the SH 146/225 evacuation routes by the State <br />Highway Department. <br /> <br />
