,._~ RECEIV
® • ,
COMM. DEV.
• 1002 Hollow Tree Avenue
La Porte, Texas 77571
April 11, 1989
Mayor Norman Malone and
Members of the La Porte City Council
City Hall
La Porte, Texas 77571
Dear Mayor Malone and Council Members:
Over three months have gone by since our Shady River Addition
(formerly a subdivision within the Bayshore Municipal Utility
District) became part of La Porte.
For some months previous to January 1, 1989 my husband and I,
as well as most of our neighbors, loo}red forward with anticipation
to being a part of the city which has always been the base for
our activities. These past months we have not been disappointed:
your services, such as new street signs, trash and garbage pickup,
street sweeping, and good surveillance by your police department,
dependable ambulance service (we can vouch personally for that
experience); and k~zowing our fire protection has increased, have
all given us a sense of well being. We thank you.
Just recently, however, we discovered to our dismay that new
• trailers were being brought into the former BayMUD area. This was
after the assurance at public meetings by the La Porte City
officials that no NEW trailers would be brought into the area
after December 31, 1989. It was also stated that those already
here would be "grandfathered," but could not be handed on to new
owners or tenants.
We understand that one of the goals set out by the City of La
Porte recently is to enhance the present environment within its
boundaries so as to attract more of the employees of the companies
now here or~'planning to work here so that they would not leave the
community to purchase their homes. Faced with the option of
investing their money in a strictly residential area such as are
found closer to Clear Lake, or buying property close to a trailer
settlement, one need not guess at their choice!
We as}: that you keep your commitment to us, and not downgrade
property values in our and other similar additions.
M inc~ly~ ..
( s. R. C. Morris)
cc: Planning and Zoning Committee----
