<br />Page 2 <br />Planning & Zoning Commission <br />Minutes of July 18, 1991 <br /> <br />5) DISCUSS ITEMS RELATING TO THE 1991 REVIEW OF ZONING ORDINANCE <br />1501 <br /> <br />Carports <br /> <br />The Planning & Zoning Commission, during its June 27, 1991 meeting directed staff <br />to prepare ordinance language permitting residential front and side yard carports <br />with a setback of five feet (5'). <br />Joel Albrecht in his report to the Commission detailed the requested ordinance <br />language that staff had prepared. <br />After discussion, the Commission took a straw vote and were in favor of tabling the <br />carport issue until the return of Commissioners Doug Martin and Betty Waters. <br /> <br />Section 4-400.1 Zoning of Annexed Property <br /> <br />Under current ordinance requirements, newly annexed property MAY be zoned as <br />R -1 Residential. Staff suggested a change in ordinance wording to make R -1 Zoning <br />automatic. Commission agreed to the proposed change. <br /> <br />Break 7:10 PM Resume 7:15 PM <br /> <br />Main Street <br /> <br />Joel Albrecht gave an overview of the zoning regulations as they apply to the <br />Mainstreet downtown area. <br /> <br />The following citizens all contributed to the Main Street discussion: <br /> <br />Judy Roelof Primary goal is to uplift the area. Sees the area as a pedestrian, <br />specialty shopping area. <br /> <br />Pat Muston Encourages zoning to be changed to allow their plan to work. <br />Would like to see things sped up. <br /> <br />Imogene Pulleine Wants to see the area revitalized and reconditioned such as <br />other cities who have participated in "Main Street America". <br /> <br />Lisa Honeycutt Noted that La Porte's Centennial is next year and would like <br />to have something done about the area before the celebration. <br /> <br />After lengthy discussion, Mr. Albrecht stated more work needed to be done defining <br />the goals for Main Street. <br />
