OPEN PUBLIC HEARING TO CONSIDER ZONE CHANGE REQUEST #R00- <br />003 FOR THE PROPERTY LOCATED AT 3600 UNDERWOOD ROAD, LA <br />~PORTE, HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS. THE PROPERTY IS FURTHER <br />DESCRIBED BY THE HARRIS COUNTY APPRAISAL DISTRICT AS TRACT <br />813 & N 300 FT OF LOTS 698 & 699; LA PORTE OUTLOTS. THE APPLICANT <br />IS SEEffiNG A ZONE CHANGE FROM MID DENSITY RESIDENTIAL (R-2) <br />TO NEIGHBORHOOD COMMERCIAL (NC) TO ALLOW CONSTRUCTION <br />OF A BOAT & RV STORAGE FACILITY. <br />Chairperson Waters opened the Public Hearing at 6:08 PM. <br />Mr. Ellis presented staff's report. Reverend Oliver Stillwell, of First Assembly of God <br />Church, requested a zone change from R 2 to NC for property located in the 3600 Block of <br />Underwood Rd. in order to sell the property to a buyer wanting to construct a boat and RV. <br />storage facility. <br />1. PROPONENTS <br />Reverend Oliver Stillwell addressed the Commission. Rev. Stillwell, pastor of <br />First Assembly of God Church, located at 316 E. Fairmont Pkwy., stated the <br />property in question was acquired through a merger with the church on <br />Underwood that burned, Fairmont Assembly of God Church. Selling this <br />land would give the church an opportunity to continue doing things at their <br />location on Fairmont Pkwy. <br />2. OPPONENTS <br />Fred Young, who resides in the Summer Winds Subdivision, addressed the <br />Commission. Mr. Young does not want the property to be rezoned because <br />he feels that aboat/RV storage facility is an undesirable business to be <br />located next to a residential subdivision. Increased traffic, excessive lighting, <br />and a decrease in surrounding property values, were all reasons Mr. Young <br />gave for being opposed to the rezoning. He brought 17 signatures from area <br />neighbors also opposed. <br />Russell Hargett, who resides at 3617 E. Desert Drive, addressed the <br />Commission. Mr. Hargett doesn't like the idea of having a business located <br />behind his home. He expressed his opposition to the rezone. <br />Mike Mazariegos, who resides at 9501 Old Desert Rd., addressed the <br />Commission. Mr. Mazariegos researched the area before he purchased his <br />home and liked the fact there were no businesses nearby. <br />
