CALL TO ORDER. <br />Meeting called to order by Chairperson Waters at 6:00 PM. <br />II. APPROVE MINUTES OF THE MARCH 15, 2001, REGULAR MEETING AND <br />PUBLIC HEARING. <br />Motion by Melton Wolters to approve the Minutes of March 15, 2001. Motion <br />seconded by Dottie Kaminski. Motion carried with all in favor. <br />III. OPEN PUBLIC HEARINGS. <br />Chairperson Waters opened the public hearings at 6:00 PM. <br />A. DISCUSS REZONE REQUEST #RO1-002 FOR FIFTEEN ACRES OF <br />LAND THAT INCLUDES TR 3A & 4A, BLOCK 3, IN THE W.J. PAYNE <br />SUBDIVISION, EAST OF LA PORTE FIRE STATION NO. 2 ALONG <br />SPENCER HIGHWAY. THE APPLICANT 1S SEEKING TO REZONE <br />FROM GENERAL COMMERCIAL (GC) TO LOW -DENSITY <br />RESIDENTIAL (R-1) FOR ALLOWING SINGLE-FAMILY DWELLINGS. <br />Planning Coordinator Masood Malik presented an overview of <br />Rezone Request #1301-002. The applicant, Eddie Gray, owns 15.746 <br />acres of land on -the south side of Spencer Highway, currently zoned <br />General Commercial. Mr. Gray has requested a zone change to Low <br />Density Residential for 14.2 acres out of the 15.746 acres. He <br />intends to provide single-family dwellings on the 14.2 acres, but <br />wants the remaining 1.5 acres to stay General Commercial. <br />Thirty-one (31) notices of public hearing were mailed to property <br />owners surrounding the area in question. The City received two (2) <br />responses favoring the request and one (1) opposing it. <br />Staff recommended approval of #RO1-002. <br />1. PROPONENTS <br />Eddie Gray stated he has been the Developer for Fairmont <br />Park Subdivision since 1974 and the tract in question has <br />been zoned commercial for most of that time. Mr. Gray <br />asked the Commission to favorably consider his request. <br />
