CONTINUE PUBLIC HEARING AND CONSIDER RECOMMENDATION .TO CITY. <br />COUNCIL REGARDING SPECIAL.. CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT•#SCU04-008 FOR <br />2.14 ACRES OF LAND LOCATED AT 2916 NORTH 23RD STREET ADJACENT TO <br />PUBLIC WORKS' FACILITY OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE. THE APPLICANT SEEKS <br />APPROVAL OF A SPECIAL CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT FOR AN EXPANSION TO <br />THE EXISTING LA PORTE SELF -STORAGE FACILITY FOR OPEN STORAGE. (Item <br />was tabled at the May 20, 2004 meeting.) <br />Planning Coordinator, Masood Malik;, presented staffs report. The applicant, William <br />Thomas, would like to expand the existing mini -storage facility, located at 2915 North <br />23rd St., by paving. 2.14 acres of an ad acent portion along Spencer Hwy.' The <br />Commission tabled this item at the May 20 meeting to allow. the ,applicant time to pull <br />together plans for .the expansion --and incorporate changes suggested during the <br />meeting. <br />Staff recommended approval. with the. conditions outlined in staffs.report. . <br />Motion by Nick Barrera to recommend to. City Council, approval of Special Conditional <br />Use Permit #SCU04-008 for an expansion to the existing La Porte -Self Storage -facility <br />located at 2915 North 23nd St. with the following conditions: <br />1. The site is constructed with a 10. landscaping along that portion that abuts Spencer <br />Highway. This landscaping barrier should be a mixture of trees and sight .bearing <br />bushes (e.g. red tips or oleanders) and be able to fulfill .the intent of the barrier from one <br />(1) year after planting. The an additional 5' landscaping barrier be constructed along <br />the western portions of the perimeter including the entire length of the strip running east . <br />and west adjacent to the existing facility and facing the proposed site of the new Police . <br />Station: The landscaping plan. must be approved by the City Staff. <br />-2. That the special conditional use permit be approved only for phase II. <br />3. .The paved area ' provide a dust free environment, the construction of which 'be . <br />approved by the City Staff: :: <br />
