<br />PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION <br />MINUTES OF APRIL 30,. 2008 <br /> <br />Members Present: <br /> <br />Pat Muston, Doretta Finch, Dottie Kaminski, Claude Meharg, Paul Berner, Kirby <br />Linscomb, Jr., Nick Barrera, and Hal Lawler (Alt 1) <br /> <br />Members Absent: <br /> <br />Les Bird (Alt 2) <br /> <br />City staff Present: <br /> <br />Planning Director, Tim Tietlen~ City Planner, Masood Malik; Assistant City <br />Attorney, Clark Askins; and Planning and Zoning Secretary, Peggy Lee <br /> <br />1. CALL TO ORDER. <br /> <br />Meeting called to order by Chairperson Muston at 6:02 p.m. <br /> <br />2. OPEN WORKSHOP TO DISCUSS ALLOWABLE USES AND PROPOSED BOUNDARY LINES <br />FOR COMMERCIAL RECREATION (CR) ZONING DISTRICT WITHIN THE CITY OF LA <br />PORTE. <br /> <br />Chairperson Muston opened the workshop at 6:02 p.m. <br /> <br />Masood Malik presented staff's report on proposed allowable uses and boundary lines for the <br />Commercial Recreation Zoning District. Mr. Malik reminded the Commission about a letter from <br />Mr. Walter Johnson they received in their packet. In the letter, Mr. Johnson, a long time La Porte <br />resident and President of Amegy Bank, expressed his support for the Commercial Recreation <br />District and similar successful efforts by Houston Mayor Bill White's Discovery Green project. <br /> <br />Staff and Commission Members discussed the proposed boundaries for the District Commission <br />Members agreed the proposed boundaries were appropriate and directed staff to move forward <br />with the boundaries as presented. <br /> <br />Staff and Commission Members held a lengthy discussion regarding proposed allowable uses for <br />the District. Commission Members requested staff provide them with the SIC classifications for <br />eight of the proposed uses, prior to the next meeting: <br /> <br />. Amusement (7993) 1 (7999) <br />· Antique and used merchandise stores (5932) <br />· Eating and Drinking Places (5813) <br />. Hotels and Motels (701, 7032, 704) <br />. Misc. Retail (592, 593, 5948, 596-599, 5399) <br />· Misc_ Shopping (5941-5947,5949,5992,..5994 <br />· Misc. Shopping (5995, 5999) <br />· Personal Services (722-729 only) <br /> <br />No additional information was requested for other proposed "permitted" and "conditional" uses. <br /> <br />3. CLOSE WORKSHOP <br /> <br />Chairperson Muston closed the workshop at 7:10 p.m. <br /> <br />4. ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS <br /> <br />There were no administrative reports. <br />
