JOINT RESOLUTION <br />CITY OF SHOREACRES <br />RESOLUTION 2005- 0 ~ <br />CITY OF LA PORTS <br />RESOLUTION 2005- (~ <br />INTENT TO DEVELOP JOINT USE PARK ON TAYLOR BAYOU <br />A JOINT RESOLUTION BY THE CITIES OF SHOREACRES, TEXAS AND LA <br />PORTS, TEXAS OUTLINING THEIR INTENT TO ACQUIRE AND DEVELOP A <br />NATURE=BASED PARK ON TAYLOR BAYOU <br />WHEREAS, the property located at Block 41 Lot I8B Shoreacres(proposed park) <br />provides access to two branches of Taylor Bayou for kayaking and other low impact <br />water recreation and can be connected by water with other parks along Taylor Bayou; <br />WHEREAS, the proposed park is one of the last natural pieces of property in the <br />Shoreacres and Shady River area for walking, bird watching, and other nature-based <br />activities; <br />WHERAS, the proposed park contains valuable wetlands along the Taylor Bayou <br />shoreline, necessary to maintain water quality and habitat along this important estuary; <br />WHEREAS, portions of the proposed park lie in both the Cities of Shoreacres and La <br />Porte and can accessed by citizens of both cities: <br />WHEREAS, the current owner of the proposed park is willing to sell the property for use <br />as a park with minimal disruption to trees, vegetation, and wetlands; <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCILS OF THE CITIES <br />OF SHOREACRES AND LA PORTS, STATE OF TEXAS; THAT: <br />1. The cities jointly apply for a grant from the Coastal Coordination Council's Coastal <br />Management Program Cycle 11 for the purpose of purchasing the proposed park; <br />2. The cities develop a joint plan for the park over the next year that provides for <br />pedestrian access to the park from Shoreacres and appropriate park facilities, such as a <br />kayak dock. <br />AND IT IS SO ORDERED. <br />PASSED AND APPROVED THIS THE 23'~ DAY OF MAY, 2005. <br />
