MINUTES OF THE PORT OF HOUSTON EXPANSION <br />REVIEW COMMITTEE <br />OCTOBER 7, 2004 <br />1. CALL TO ORDER <br />The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Engelken at 3:10 p.m. <br />Members of the Committee Present: Chairperson Chuck Engelken and Councilmember <br />Mike Mosteit <br />Other Councilmembers Present: Mayor Alton E. Porter and Mayor Pro Tem Barry <br />Beasley <br />Members Absent: Peter Griffiths arrived during the meeting. <br />Members of City Executive Staff and City Employees Present: City Manager Debra <br />Feazelle and City Secretary's Office Secretary Susan Turner <br />Port of Houston Members Present: Port of Houston Commissioner Jimmy Burke <br />2. CONSIDER APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM THE JULY 7, 2004 BAYPORT <br />EXPANSION REVIEW COMMITTEE MEETING <br />Motion was made by Councilmember Beasley to approve the Minutes of the Baynort <br />Expansion .Review Committee Meetine held on July 7, 2004, as presented. Second by <br />Councilmember Mosteit. The motion carried. <br />3. FOLLOW-UP DISCUSSION ON THE IMPACT OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE <br />FROM THE CONSTRUCTION AND OPERTATION OF THE BAYPORT <br />FACILITY <br />The lawsuit filed on the Port of Houston Expansion was brought up briefly, with <br />acknowledgement of La Porte not participating in the lawsuit. La Porte realizes the <br />benefits from the Port, with all parties working together. Chairman Engelken stated some <br />of the citizens were very upset with the Bayport Expansion. <br />Mr. Engelken reported on the statistics of La Porte's EMS Services and Hospital <br />Statistics. The Community and surrounding area are in need of a trauma center and <br />another ambulance. Mr. Engelken questioned Mr. Burke if the Port would be interested <br />in assisting the area with this situation; Mr. Burke assured the Committee the Port is <br />interested. <br />
