AD —HOC MEETING AUGUST 22, 1990 ATTENDANCE: HELEN SMITH RODEO ASSOCIATION SYLVIA SIMMS GIRLS SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION BLAKE PAGE SOCCER ASSOCIATION STAN SHERWOOD CITY OF LA PORTE BERT CLARK CITY OF LA PORTE BECKY SMITH CITY OF LA PORTE Meeting was call to order at 7:40 p.m. by Bert Clark, Roll call was taken. Motion to accept 5/24/90 minutes was made by Sylvia Simms and was seconded by Helen Smith. Bert ask for any old business or comments and none was discussed. Bert Clark reviewed the 1990 -91 budget relating to the associations. Budget is to be adopted by City Council on 9/10/90. Bert announced that the three (3) scorekeeper booths at Lomax Softball Fields will be renovated. Northwest Park parking lot bids were accepted and construction is to begin on October 28, 1990. Designated parking will be marked off during the construction to prevent damage to the trees. Estimated cost for this project will be $90,000 - $120,000. Stan announced that City Council has agreed to set up a special account of $10,000 for this year and each year after for the purchase of a cover for the riding arena. This amount is to be matched dollar for dollar by the La Porte Rodeo Association until sufficient funds are on deposit for the actual purchase. The cover will be approximately 100' X 300', and an old estimate was quoted at $120,000. This has been denied by City Council in the last 3 years. If the funds are not matched by the Rodeo Association, the account will become idle. Monies on deposit will be interest bearing. There not being a representative from Boys Baseball present, no discussion on boys baseball will be made. As new business, Sylvia Simms requested that trees be planted at the Lomax Softball Fields. Discussion was held as to the possibility of trees being donated. The Soccer Association donated irrigated fields to the boys Baseball Association and hope that they will be replaced next year. Blake requested ball fields for practice. Soccer has approximately 650 kids and need practice space. Helen Smith has 35 people committed to purchase sand for the arena and ask if the P.A.R.D. could order some. Bert advised her that we do not have it in our funds at this time. The next meeting was scheduled for November 15, 1990 at 7:30. 1990 -1991 officers will be elected at this meeting.
