Minutes of Public Hearing <br />and Regular Meeting <br />La Porte Wrecker Committee <br />May 1, 1996, Page 2 <br />Assistant City Attorney John Armstrong asked Mr. Gordon if his intent was to only withdraw the <br />application for Les Marks Mazda or to also apply for a transfer to DeWalt Towing for Les Marks <br />Chevrolet. Mr. Gordon indicated he would request a transfer to DeWalt Towing as quickly as <br />possible. Mr. Armstrong informed the Committee that the transfer could not be addressed at this <br />meeting, however, a regular meeting, which requires 72 hours advance notice, could be held. <br />An affidavit would need to be filed on behalf of the dealership indicating discontinuance of the <br />Auto Wrecker covered in the permit and that another wrecker will be used in its place. A $25 <br />transfer fee will also be required. <br />Police Chief Bobby Powell inquired about the $15 per vehicle per day storage fee that was <br />discussed at the previous meeting. Mr. Armstrong noted that the suggested increase for storage <br />must be made to the wrecker ordinance then submitted for Council approval. Information has <br />been gathered and a proposal reflecting the changes to the ordinance are forthcoming. <br />Chief Powell inquired about cross rotating wreckers and indicated the Police Department did not - <br />have a problem with this idea. Mr. Armstrong confirmed that this action could be done .vithout <br />a change to the ordinance. <br />Mr. Rankin asked for other public input. There being none, Mr. Rankin declared the Public <br />Hearing closed at 3:17 P.M. <br />The withdrawal of the application was accepted by the Committee with no action being taken. <br />4. CONSIDER RECOMMENDATION OR OTHER ACTION BY THE WRECKER <br />COMMITTEE OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE <br />There was none. <br />5. STAFF REPORTS <br />Mr. Rankin recommended a regular meeting be held Wednesday, May 8, 1996, at 3:00 P.M., <br />to hear Mr. Gordon's request for a transfer. All members concurred. <br />Chief Powell distributed a memo prepared by Lt. Corrales showing average wrecker pulls for the <br />years 1993 and 1995, utilizing a 7 wrecker rotation. A copy of this memo is attached and is a <br />part of these minutes. Mr. Rankin asked Lt. Corrales if he had a recommendation regarding the <br />number of wrecker E-Tags to be utilized. Lt Corrales recommended we continue with the six <br />E-Tags issued at the present time. Mr. Rankin stated, "We will utilize the six tags presently <br />held. If at any time the committee finds there is a problem, or the Police Department is not <br />getting proper service in due time, the Wrecker Committee will hold a meeting and be ready to <br />add the seventh E-Tag". <br />6. ADJOURNMENT <br />There being no further business to come before the Committee, the meeting was duly adjourned <br />at 3:22 P.M. <br />
