Consider action to grant or deny two emergency auto wrecker permits to Charlie Hinds Paint & <br />Body, Inc., under Section 78-297 of the La Porte Code of Ordinances. <br /> <br />Martha Gillett directed a question to the City Attorney about the number of permits the city is <br />allowed to issue. Clark Askins responded the City can legally increase the number of auto <br />wrecker permits issued as there is a limitation on the City's authority to limit the number of <br />wrecker permits issued. <br /> <br />Motion by Lt. Rice to grant two emergency auto wrecker permits to Charlie Hinds Paint & Body, <br />Inc. Second by Martha Gillett. The motion carried with all in favor <br /> <br />5. Conduct public hearing to receive input on a request by Reliance Ford for issuance of two <br />emergency auto wrecker permits, under section 78-297 of the La Porte Code of Ordinances. <br /> <br />A. Open public hearing <br /> <br />The Chairman opened the public hearing at 2:20 p.m. <br /> <br />B. Staff comments <br /> <br />Debbie Wilmore reported she met with the Body Shop Manager for Reliance Ford to <br />discuss the current impound yard and how it would need to be expanded if new permits <br />were issued. The manager confirmed that Reliance Ford has enough land and funds to <br />expand the yard. <br /> <br />C. Public comments <br /> <br />There were no comments from the public. <br /> <br />D. Close public hearing <br /> <br />The Chairman closed the public hearing at 2:22 p.m. <br /> <br />6. Consider action to grant or deny emergency auto wrecker permits to Reliance Ford, under <br />Section 78-297 of the La Porte Code of Ordinances. <br /> <br />Lt. Rice recalled a problem from the past when Reliance Ford had a large failure to respond <br />rate. Mr. Tine stated the problem was with one of their contractual wreckers prior to them <br />having their own wrecker. Mr. Tine confirmed the problem had been corrected. <br />
