I] <br />9, ZONING BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT <br />MINUTES OF OCTOBER 28,1999 <br />Members Present: Chairperson Sidney Grant, Members Willie Walker, Ruben Salinas, <br />Rod Rothermel, Alternate No.1 Charles Schoppe, Alternate No. 2 <br />George Maltsberger <br />Membem Abs Bob Capen <br />any Staff pi" ent: Chief Building Official Debbie Wilmore, Assistant City Attorney <br />John Armstrong, and. Planning Secretary Peggy Lee <br />I. CALL TO ORDER. <br />Meeting was called to order by Chairperson Grant at 7:00 PM. <br />11. APPROVE MINUTES OF THE AUGUST 26,1999 MEETING. <br />- With no objections from the Board, Chairperson Grant declared the minutes <br />approved as presented. <br />III. CONSIDER VARIANCE REQUEST #V99-001 WHICH SEEKS TO <br />ALLOW THE CONSTRUCTION OF A TRUCK MAINTENANCE <br />BUILDING WITH A SIDE SETBACK OF FIVE FEET (8') AS PER <br />SECTION 106-192(B)(2) OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE <br />CITY OF LA PORTE. <br />Staffs report presented by Debbie Wilmore. Port Properties intends to construct a <br />building at 629 N. 8'' Street They have -requested a variance to build within five feet <br />(5) of the west property line. <br />Twelve (12) public hearing notices were mailed to property owners within 200 feet of <br />the site. Six (6) responses were received favoring the variance; none were received in <br />opposition; and one (1) was returned undeliverable. Two (2) favorable responses <br />were received from individuals that were not on the mailing list <br />A. PROPONENTS - <br />Chairperson Grant swore in Charlie Young, District 5 Councilperson. <br />Mr.. Young stated that the current property owner, Mr. Momin, has <br />done a first class job in the past and has made a definite <br />improvement to the area. Mr. Young has looked at the proposed <br />building plans and believes the project will be an asset to the area. <br />B. OPPONENTS <br />No opposition was presented. <br />Motion made by Rod Rothermel to approve Variance #V99-001, Motion seconded <br />by Ruben Salinas. All were in favor and the motion passed. <br />
