Distinguished Budget Presentation Award <br />The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada <br />(GFOA) is pleased to announce that the City of La Porte, Texas has received the <br />GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its annual budget for the fiscal <br />year beginning October 1, 2013. <br />The award represents a significant achievement by the City. It reflects the commitment <br />of the City Council and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental <br />budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, the City had to satisfy nationally <br />recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed <br />to assess how well the City’s budget serves as (1) a policy document; (2) a financial <br />plan; (3) an operations guide, and (4) a communicationsdevice. Budget documents <br />must be rated “proficient” in all four categories, and the fourteen mandatory criteria <br />within those categories, to receive the award. <br />For budgets including fiscal period 2013,over 1,400participants have received the <br />Award. Award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and <br />provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America. The <br />City of La Porte has received this award since 1990. <br />The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional association <br />serving nearly 18,000government finance professionals throughout North America. <br />The GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national <br />th <br />awards program in governmental budgeting.
