2015 <br />TML RESOLUTION COVER SHEET <br />Sponsoring Entity: <br />_City of La Porte, Region 14_______________________________________________ <br /> (City, TML Affiliate, and/or TML Region) <br />The Houston-Galveston Ship Channel Region is home to a large percentage of the_ <br />Brief Background: <br />Texas population, the largest and most important concentration of petroleum refining and petro_____ <br />chemical processing plants in the U.S.,and the Port of Houston, the second busiest port in the nation._ <br />All are extremely vulnerable to the devastating and costly destruction of hurricane storm surge._____ <br />This resolution is intended to show statewide support <br />What the Resolution is Intended to Accomplish <br />: <br />for Hurricane Storm Surge Protection by means of a coastal barrier system for this nationally________ <br />strategic area, request state funding for additional studies and planning, and request the entire Texas <br />Federal delegation to seek and support federal funding for the design, construction and_______ <br />maintenance of a coastal barrier system for the Houston-Galveston Ship Channel region. ___________ <br />: <br />Municipal governments along <br />How the Resolution is City-Related/How it Addresses a Municipal Issue <br />the Texas coast and Galveston Bay would be severely impacted with respect to infrastructure, <br />facilities, tax base and economies by a major storm event. Damage from hurricane storm surge can__ <br />be mitigated by a coastal barrier system.__________________________________________________ <br />The Houston-Galveston Ship Channel area is the economic engine of the State <br />Statewide Importance <br />: <br />of Texas and the entire United States.
