Distinguished Budget Presentation Award The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) is pleased to announce that the City of La Porte has received the GFOA's Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its annual budget for the fiscal year beginning October 1, 2015. This is the twenty-six (26th) consecutive year that the City has received this prestigious award. For budgets including fiscal period 2016, approximately 1,550 participants have received the Award. Theaward represents a significant achievement by the City. It reflects the commitment of the City Council and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, the City had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well the City's budget serves as (1) a policy document; (2) a financial plan; (3) an operations guide, and (4) a communications device. Budget documents must be rated "proficient" in all four categories, and the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award. GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 18,700 government finance professionals throughout North America. The GFOA's Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting. City staff currently responsible for budget presentation include: City Manager's Office, Director of Finance Michael Dolby, Treasurer Shelley Wolny and Accountant Gay Collins.
