REQUEST FOR CITY COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM <br />Budget <br />Agenda Date Requested: February 13, 2017 <br />Source of Funds: <br />Requested By: Patrice Fogarty, City Secretary <br />Account Number: <br />Department: City Secretary <br />Amount Budgeted: <br />Report: Resolution: Ordinance: <br />Amount Requested: <br />Budgeted Item: YES NO <br />Exhibits: Joint Election Agreement - May 6, 2017, election <br />SUMMARY & RECOMMENDATION <br />On January 9, 2017, City Council ordered a general election to be held on May 6, 2017. <br />Historically, the City of La Porte has participated in joint elections with La Porte Independent <br />School District and San Jacinto College. The Texas Election Code requires the terms of the <br />joint election to be set out in a joint election agreement. <br />For Council consideration is an Interlocal Agreement for Joint Elections, which shall be entered <br />into by the three entities, City of La Porte, La Porte Independent School District and San Jacinto <br />College, for the purpose of establishing the procedures, division of responsibilities, and sharing of <br />costs for elections held by the parties and taking place on the May uniform election date, and any <br />runoff elections stemming from the May uniform election date. <br />Exhibit A to the agreement outlines the polling locations for early voting and Election Day. City <br />Hall and the Instructional Technology Center are the polling places for all precincts for early <br />voting. Precincts 1-6 will vote at one of these locations on Election Day. Precinct 7 votes at <br />College Park Elementary for LPISD and San Jacinto College only. The agreement includes <br />branch early voting. <br />Action Required by Council: <br />Consider approval or other action of an Interlocal Agreement for Joint Elections for the 2017 <br />May uniform election date. <br />Approved for City Council Agenda <br />Corby D.
