<br />reassessing Coach Oliver they discovered that he now had a pulse and appeared to be <br />gaining consciousness and communicating with the paramedics. Coach Oliver was <br />transported by EMS and upon arrival at the receiving hospital, Coach Oliver was <br />conscious, alert and talking. Coach Oliver was admitted to the hospital for several days <br />and then later released with what is expected to be a full recovery. <br />Sudden cardiac death syndrome that occurs in people between the ages of 1 and 35 <br />account for an average of 100,000 deaths each year in the United States. <br />Bystander intervention like the CPR that Ernie and Jesse performed on Coach Oliver, <br />occurs in less than 30% of victims that suffer cardiac arrest outside of a hospital and <br />irreversible brain death begins to occur within 4 to 6 minutes in cardiac arrest victims with <br />no CPR. <br />The national survival rate of a sudden cardiac arrest victim ‘LI bystander CPR being <br />performed prior to EMS arrival is less than 7%. That survival rate without bystander CPR <br />is cut in half. (3.5%) <br />We now know that chances of survival were extremely low on that <br />afternoon when he collapsed on the sideline <br />early call to 911 by <br />Jewel Whitfield to the bystander CPR performed by Ernie Molina and Jesse Juarez, Coach <br />Oliver now has a second chance at life. <br />This evening, these heroic citizens are being awarded the Lifesaving Award for <br />their efforts in resuscitating Coach Chad Oliver from his sudden cardiac arrest, ultimately <br />resulting in the saving of his life. These Good Samaritan ability to properly identify this <br />medical emergency and calmly take action by performing CPR, produced a successful <br />outcome and aided in preserving a human life. <br />Please join me in congratulating Ernie Molina, Jesse Juarez and Jewel Whitfield in <br />receiving these Lifesaving Awards as a token of our appreciation and gratitude <br />for their outstanding and brave performance. <br />(Presentation Concluded) <br /> <br /> <br />
