LOUIS RIGBY <br />Mayor <br />BRANDON LUNSFORD <br />Councilperson At Large A <br />STEVE GILLETT <br />Councilperson At Large B <br />DANNY EARP <br />Councilperson District 1 <br />CHUCK ENGELKEN <br />Councilperson District 2 <br />MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE <br />CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE <br />SEPTEMBER 19, 2019 <br />BILL BENTLEY <br />Councilperson District 3 <br />Mayor Pro -Tem <br />THOMAS GARZA <br />Councilperson District 4 <br />JAY MA RTI N <br />Councilperson District 5 <br />NANCY OJEDA <br />Councilperson District 6 <br />The City Council of the City of La Porte met in a regular meeting on Thursday, September 19, 2019, at the City Hall <br />Council Chambers, 604 West Fairmont Parkway, La Porte, Texas, at 5:30 p.m., with the following in attendance: <br />Councilpersons present: Louis Rigby, Thomas Garza (arrived at 5:41 p.m.), Steve Gillett, Bill Bentley, Brandon Lunsford, <br />Danny Earp, Nancy Ojeda (arrived at 5:33 p.m.) <br />Councilpersons absent: Chuck Engelken, Jay Martin <br />Council -appointed officers present: Corby Alexander, City Manager; Lee Woodward, City Secretary; Clark Askins, <br />Assistant City Attorney <br />1. CALL TO ORDER — Mayor Rigby called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. <br />2. INVOCATION — The invocation was given by Assistant City Attorney Clark Askins. <br />PLEDGES — The pledges of allegiance to the U.S. and Texas flags were led by Mayor Rigby. <br />3. STATUTORY AGENDA <br />(a) The City Council will hold a public hearing to accept comments on their consideration to accept a maximum <br />property tax rate of $0.71 per $100 valuation for the City's 2019-2020 fiscal year. [Corby Alexander, City <br />Manager; Michael Dolby, Finance Director] <br />City Manager Corby Alexander announced the next public hearing on the tax rate will be held on September 23, <br />2019, at 6 p.m. Mayor Rigby opened the public hearing at 5:32 p.m. No comments were offered. The Mayor closed <br />the public hearing at 5:32 p.m. <br />4. COUNCIL COMMENTS regarding matters appearing on the agenda; recognition of community members, city <br />employees, and upcoming events; inquiry of staff regarding specific factual information or existing policies. <br />A Councilmember said the long-term continued tax rate demonstrated good management of the City; another proposed <br />a two -cent decrease in the City's property tax rate. <br />ADJOURN — Without objection, Mayor Rigby adjourned the meeting at 5:42 p.m. <br />Lee Woodward, City Secretary <br />Page 1 of 1 <br />September 19, 2019, Council Meeting Minutes <br />
