ORDINANCE 2021-3835 <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS, DECLARING <br />ELECTED THE UNOPPOSED CANDIDATE FOR THE SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION THAT WAS <br />ST <br />TO BE HELD ON THE 31 DAY OF JULY, 2021, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING A <br />COUNCILPERSON-DISTRICT 1 AND THEREBY ENABLING THE CANCELLATION OF THE <br />ELECTION; PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE; PROVIDING AN OPEN MEETINGS CLAUSE; AND <br />PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE <br />WHEREAS, On April 26, 2021, the City Council adopted Ordinance 2021-3826, calling a special election to fill a <br />vacancy for the purpose of electing a Councilperson-District 1; and <br />WHEREAS, Filing for the position was conducted in accordance with the Texas Election Code and only one <br />candidate, Mandi Williams, filed for a place on the ballot; and <br />WHEREAS, There were no declarations for write-in candidates; and <br />WHEREAS, The City Council has accepted a Certification of Unopposed Status for Mandi Williams for the special <br />election; <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LA PORTE, TEXAS: <br />SECTION 1. Mandi Williams is hereby declared elected for the office of Councilperson-District 1, subject to the <br />taking of her oath as provided by the laws of the State of Texas. Mandi Williams shall hold office for the remainder <br />-year term, which concludes at the time of the holding of the May 2023 general municipal election, <br />and any resulting runoff, for the election of members to the La Porte City Council. <br />st <br />SECTION 2. The special municipal election that was to be held on the 31 day of July, 2021, in the city, for the <br />purpose of electing a Councilperson-District 1, is hereby cancelled. <br />SECTION 3. Actions related to this election and its cancellation shall be held in accordance with, and shall be <br />governed by, the election laws of the State of Texas. Additionally, the City Secretary and Mayor are hereby authorized <br />to perform all duties and take all actions as required. <br />SECTION 4. The City Secretary of the City of La Porte shall post notice of cancellation of said election on the <br />st <br />bulletin board at City Hall not later than the twenty-first (21) day before election day. Such notice shall remain <br />posted through election day. On Election Day, this notice will also be placed on the doors of the polling location that <br />was to be used for the election. <br />SECTION 5. The Mayor and/or the City Secretary of the City of La Porte are hereby authorized to execute and/or <br />issue, for and on behalf of the City, such orders, documents, and forms as may, from time to time, be promulgated <br />by the Secretary of State of the State of Texas in conjunction with the election herein ordained. <br />SECTION 6. Each and every provision, paragraph, sentence and clause of this ordinance has been separately <br />considered and passed by the City Council of the City of La Porte, Texas, and each said provision would have been <br />separately passed without any other provision; and if any provision hereof shall be ineffective, invalid or <br /> <br /> <br />
