Office of the Mayor <br />WHEREAS, one in three women and one in ten men report abuse in their <br />relationships in the form of physical, emotional, sexual, psychological and <br />economicabuse. Domestic violence affects women, childrenand men of all <br />racial, social, religious, ethnic and economic backgrounds; and <br />WHEREAS, approximately 3.3 million children witness domestic violence annually, <br />and violenceinthehomeisthestrongestindicatorthatabuse willbetransferredto <br />thenextgeneration;everyonedeservestofeelsafeintheirhomesandcommunities; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, no one person, organization, agency,or community can eliminate <br />domestic violence on their own;we can work together to educate our entire <br />population about what can be done to prevent domestic violence, support <br />victims/survivors and their significantothers,andincreasesupportforagencies <br />providingservicestovictim/survivors; and <br />WHEREAS, National Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention Month provides an <br />excellent opportunity for citizens of La Porte and surrounding communities to reduce <br />domestic violence through prevention, education, increased awareness, encouraging <br />every person to speak out when witnessing acts of violence, taking time to talk about <br />creating a healthy, respectful, and safe community, and holding perpetrators who commit <br />acts of violence responsible for theiractions. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, I, Louis R.
