Subpart LAND USE REGULATIONS <br />ARTICLE |.|NGENERAL <br />extends along the lot |ims and at right angles or radial to such lot |imm to e depth of width specified in the <br />yard regulations of the zoning district in which such building lot is located. <br />Yard, front means a yard extending along the whole ofthe front lot line between: the side lot |ines, <br />and being the minimum horizontal distance between the front lot line and the front of the principal building <br />or any projections thereof other than etairo, unendoaed bo|cnnieo, or mneno|osed porches. In the case of <br />the |nte directly adjacent to the shoreline of Galveston Bey, the front yard shall be the yard extending <br />along the whole of the lot line directly adjacent to the shoreline nfGalveston Bey, and along the horizontal <br />distance between the front lot line and the front ofthe principal building or any projections thereof, other <br />than steps, uneno|osedbalconies, Vruneno|oomdporches. <br />Yard, rear means a yard extending across the rear of a lot between the side lot lines and being the <br />minimom horizontal distance between the rear lot line and the rear of the principal building or any <br />projections thereof other than steps, unenclosed balconies or unenclosed porches. <br />Yard, side means ayard extending along the side lot line from the front yard to the rear yard, being <br />the minimum horizontal distance between any building or projections thereof except steps and the side lot <br />line. <br />Zoning district map means the rnep or maps incorporated into this chapter as a port hereof by <br />reference thereto. <br />Zoning permit means awritten instrument signed bythe enforcing officer authorizing ause described <br />inthis chapter, in conformance with . <br />Words or phrases not defined in this section shall have their ordinarily accepted meaning as the <br />context may imply. <br />(Ord. No. 3453. § 1. 12-1012) <br />Cross reference— Dofioitioou generally, &l-2. <br />The zoning regulations and districts as herein established have been made in accordance with <br />comprehensive plan for the purpose of promoting health, safety, mora|s, and the general welfare of the <br />city. They have been designed to lessen onmQnsdnn in the stxaets, to secure safety from fine and panic <br />and other dangers, to provide adequate light and air, to prevent overcrowding of |and, to avoid undue <br />concentration of population, and to facilitate the adequate provision of transportation, vvabar, sevvorage, <br />schools, parks and public facilities. They have been made to reasonable consideration, among other <br />things, for the character of the disthct, its peculiar suitability for particular uses, and with a view of <br />conserving the value of building and encouraging the most appropriate use of land throughout the city. <br />It is the policy of the city that the enforcement, amendment, and administration of this chapter be <br />accomplished with due consideration of the recommendations contained in the comprehensive plan as <br />developed and amended from time totime bythe planning and zoning commission and the city council nf <br />the city.
