Pl,..AN DESCPJRrK)N <br />Based on the, evaluation of alternatives available to the City of La Porte for <br />conserving water, the following elements have been selected as those best suited <br />to the needs of the City for water conservation: <br />Continuing Public Educatlon and Information <br />Water conserving plumbing code for new construction <br />Retrofit programs <br />Water rate structures <br />Supply Management <br />Universal metering <br />Meter repair and replacement <br />Leak detection and repair <br />Recycling/reuse <br />CONTINUING PUBLIC EDUCATION AND, INFORMATION <br />A program of public education and information to promote water conservation by <br />the public has been instituted. The program includes the following: <br />-.+- Conservation messages printed on customers monthly water bills <br />The City provides support tie Harr's Galveston Coastal-Subsklence <br />istrr . . . . . . . . . .meter --Eons ation Education Program" that provides -water <br />to the residents through the-4- elementa"chool <br />r_hHdrPn water conservation messages in quarterly newsletters to citizens. <br />There are links on the City websfte to information provided by Texas <br />Commission on Environmental Quality and Texas Water Development <br />Board. <br />New customers are provided water conservation literature at the time <br />they initially sign up for service. <br />The public education program utilizes pamphlets such as those exhibited in, <br />Appendix A . The City places speclal emphasis on the need to insulate pipes to <br />prevent freezing in cold weather, repairing household leaks, retrofitting of <br />plumbing fixtures and devices, and landscaping conservation methods. The <br />energy savings associated with a water conservation program are also be <br />emphasized. Publications and materials for the program are obtained from: <br />Texas Water Development Board, Texas Commission on Environmental <br />Quality, American Water Works Association; Texas Water Utilities Association, <br />American Public Works Association, and the Environmental Protection Agency. <br />2. WATER CONSERVING PLUMBING CODE <br />The City of La Porte has adopted the Uniform Plumbing Code (2012 version). <br />Revised 2020 <br />
