It <br />was decided in 2017, that we would laser grade and complete heavy infield maintenance <br />on ballfields every three (3) years. Laser grading ensures that ballfields are sloped <br />correctly to allow for optimal drainage as well as providing a better playing surface for the <br />infield. Removing the infield lips allows for better drainage as well as preventing the <br />baseball / softball from unpredictable bounces. With improved drainage, drying times after <br />rains, and field maintenance due to standing water is greatly reduced. The last heavy <br />infield maintenance took place in 2017. Athletic Field Specialists has supplied us with the <br />attached quote to get the project completed in calendar year 2021. The work would be <br />completed in December, after Sunday Select and Fall Ball is finished. This completion <br />time would be contingent on any weather delays. Athletic Field Specialists is a Buy Board <br />Vendor, so a formal bid process is not required. Athletic Field Specialists is our provider <br />for higher quality red dirt and also completed the infield maintenance in 2017 Also, La <br />Porte ISD uses this vendor to work on their High School Baseball Fields, as well as the <br />football fields at Lomax Junior High and La Porte Junior High. <br />Maintenance on all ten (10) fields will cost $64,000 and include the following: <br />• Remove lips on all fields as needed and replace <br />• Add red infield dirt and till with existing dirt <br />Laser grade each field <br />Rebuild pitching mounds and sod the area in front of mounds <br />Add infield conditioner to each field <br />Staff recommends that City Council authorize Staff to accept the quote and award the <br />project to Athletic Field Specialists. <br />ACTION REQUIRED BY CITY COUNCIL <br />
