Department, they also foresee the need for a third dispatcher to <br />split Fire / EMS so that 911 calls can be taken by a call -taker and <br />dispatched by another. <br />Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and La Porte, Morgan's <br />Point, and Shoreacres Local Emergency Planning Committee <br />(LEPC) <br />The City of La Porte Office of Emergency Management (OEM) works <br />with local industry and surrounding agencies to mitigate natural <br />and man -made disasters by providing education on how best to <br />prepare and train for all types of emergencies. The OEM also <br />coordinates emergency response and recovery efforts when an <br />emergency occurs, including activation of the Emergency Operation <br />Center (EOC) during any major disaster. The OEM (and the EOC) is <br />located in the La Porte Police Department and is staffed with two <br />persons who work in coordination with other City departments and <br />the LEPC. <br />The LEPC works closely with the cities, schools, and communities to <br />encourage emergency preparedness and provide shelter in place education <br />to those who live and work in and around the City. <br />As part of an overall emergency notification system, the LEPC utilize several <br />means of public notification, including: <br />• Emergency Sirens. The Outdoor Warning System is used to notify citizens <br />in the event of a chemical emergency. Currently, the system is comprised <br />of 12 sirens located throughout the area that are tested every Saturday <br />at noon. <br />• CAER Line. The Community Awareness Emergency Response (CAER) <br />telephone system provides information about plant activities for <br />emergency and non - emergency messages. <br />• Connect -CTY. Connect -CTY is the City's latest system that allows the City <br />to contact citizens with important information by phone, email, and text <br />message. <br />• Radio Station AM 830. This a local emergency radio station maintained <br />by the LEPC, which broadcasts instructions during emergencies and <br />weather information /public service announcements otherwise. <br />A COMMUNIT — Y VISION FOR 1A PORTE, TEXAS - 2010 UPDATE <br />
