La Porte Chamber of Commerce -Small Business Development Committee /La Porte City Council <br /> Farmer's Market Workshop: February 28, 2011 — 6:00 pm <br /> Objective: La Porte City Council approve a Farmer's Market at the 5 Points Center <br /> Proposal: The Chamber will champion the effort and the City Park Staff will operate. 7 <br /> Background: There was an interest by La Porte citizens, growers and customers. <br /> Our committee performed some research; thus, our request. <br /> Many people visit Farmer's Markets in the surrounding cities. <br /> Third Saturday has the least amount of competition. <br /> Need at least 8 growers consistently. <br /> Benefits: <br /> Strong trend to purchase organic products because of health. <br /> Fresh Fruits, Vegetables, & Poultry. <br /> Increase in the cost of transportation is increasing the co of produce making <br /> fresh agricultural products viable. <br /> It supports our local growers which some use as ad y tional retirement income <br /> Provides a "draw" and "one more thing to do" in a Porte for Tourism <br /> Combined effort of Government, Community : nd Business <br /> Utilize the 5 Points Center and introduces ose businesses to the community <br /> Keeps Local Money in La Porte <br /> O' erations:___ . hird- Saturday {tithe market open), 8 am — 1 pm, April — October <br /> Chamber will provide volunteers. <br /> Vendors /Products: No Seafood. No Prepared Foods. No Arts & Crafts. <br /> Williams - Blackberry, Peas, Peppers, Other Vegetables, Brown Eggs <br /> Holloway - Honey, Eggs, Tomatoes, and Other Vegetables <br /> West — All Vegetables <br /> Patterson — Honey <br /> Dunham - Greens, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Peppers, Squash <br /> Bricker - Apples, Oranges, Lemon, Limes, Grapefruits <br /> Powers — Too nrto list <br /> Thompson - Pickles � <br /> Bennett - Grapes, Tomatoes, Peppers, Beans <br /> Guy — Tomatoes and other vegetables <br /> Keeney — Cabbage, Broccoli, Turnips, Watermelon, Okra, Onions <br />
