REQUEST FOR CITY COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM <br />Budget <br />Agenda Date Requested: 01-23-12 <br />Source of Funds: <br />Requested By:Ken Adcox <br />Account Number: <br />Department: Police <br />Amount Budgeted: <br />Report: X Resolution: Ordinance: <br />Amount Requested: <br />Exhibits: Amendment to Meet and Confer Agreement <br />Budgeted Item:YESNO <br />Exhibits: Existing Meet and Confer Agreement <br />Exhibits <br />SUMMARY & RECOMMENDATION <br />Pursuant to the provisions of the Texas Local Government Code, Chapter 142,management <br />representatives of the City of La Porte and the La Porte Police Officers’ Association voluntarily <br />met and agreed, pending the approval of City Council, to amend the existing Meet and Confer <br />Agreement between the City of La Porte and the La Porte Police Officers’ Associationby <br />extending the expiration date from March 31, 2012 to September 30, 2012. The amended <br />agreement willmaintain the working conditions and pay-steps outlined in the current contract for <br />civil-service employeesuntil the close of the 2011/2012 fiscal year and provides that the City of <br />La Porte and the La Porte Police Officers’ Association shall begin the next “meet and confer” <br />process no later than June 1, 2012. <br />The amendment is beneficial to both the City and the Association by: <br />Making the administration of the contract easier by bringing it in sync with the fiscal year <br />budget; and <br />Continuing the current step increases for civil service employees until the end of the <br />fiscal year, at a cost of $28,000 including benefits; and <br />Allowing the new city manager and the Association to participate in the next meet and <br />confer negotiation. <br />The amendment in question has been voted on and approved by the membership of the LaPorte <br />Police Officers’ Association and is now being presented to City Council for their consideration <br />and approval. <br />Action Required by Council: <br />Consider approval or other action approving an amendment to the current Meet and Confer <br />Agreement between the La Porte Police Officers’ Association and the City. <br /> <br />Approved for City Council Agenda <br />Steve Gillett, Interim City Manager Date <br /> <br />
